Description
Stress is not something that happens to you, but rather how you react or respond to the stressor. There are different types of stress:
Tame stress– this is the positive response to stress. Like preparing for a test. You get a bit excited, heart rate goes up, stress hormones become a little elevated, immune system gets a boost, but after the test everything returns to normal.
Tolerable stress– this is the stress that is less comfortable, like a break-up. Usually, the body’s alert system is triggered to a great degree, but you ultimately learn some important life lessons and you bounce back.
Toxic stress– this is the harmful stress and happens when our body stays in a chronic stress response. Usually this occurs from a traumatic experience, financial hardships, and abuse. When people stay in toxic stress for too long, the consequences include impaired immune function, depression, ect.
There are herbal allies that can support our bodies adaption to stress. One of my favorites and one I am using more and more in my practice are Milky Oats. This herbal ally is a nervine trophorestorative. This means that it doesn’t provide an immediate calming affect, rather it rebuilds the nervous system as a whole.
